computer locked forgot password

Many of people lock their iPod (nano, touch, classic etc..), and unfortunately forget the password. This problem occurs a lot!
First; We have to understand what this password (that stands from 4 digits) locks ? It only locks users out of the user interface. It does not encrypt data on your iPod. So you connect your iPod to a computer, you’ll be able to manage music on your iPod with iTunes and get access to all your data such as , contacts, notes, or any other files you have on your iPod.
Fortunately, this problem is easily solved, First connect the iPod to the primary computer used (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. After disconnecting your iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.
There is another way too, you can connect your iPod and restore it to factory settings, (unfortunately this erases all your data from your ipod).
Another way to unlock the iPod when you forgot your password (the four digits) is to connect it to the computer and view it in My Computer. Make sure you can view hidden files and go to folders, ipod control and then device and delete the file named _locked.
For Mac users and who want to see the hidden files in finder:
In the Terminal type:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
In Summary ;
From the link Noggin posted I was able to unlock my iPod:
Here is some brief explanation:
1. Connect iPod to your computer, it have to be the same one you used the first time to sync your iPod.
2. open iTunes.
3. disconnect iPod from the computer
4. It should no longer be locked.
5. Change the 4 digit passcode
If this doesn’t work you will have to restore it back to factory settings:
1. Make a backup, the restore process will delete all your songs and files!
2. Connect your iPod to the computer and wait until your itunes detects it.
3. Click the restore button and follow the instructions.
* I have never done the restore process so I cannot help you further…
